Revenue and contribution
Revenue is the discounted item price multiplied by quantity, plus buyer-paid shipping, excluding entered sale tax. Contribution deducts entered product and labour costs, fulfilment, marketplace fees, payment charges, advertising and expected return loss.
Gross profit, operating estimate and net profit
Gross profit normally deducts the relevant cost of goods sold from revenue; definitions can depend on accounting policy. Clear Takings’s main figure is contribution after the entered variable costs. Its operating estimate also deducts entered allocated overhead. Neither is labelled true net profit or profit after income or corporation tax.
Rounding
Inputs use exact decimal rational arithmetic. Monetary fee lines round half away from zero to the currency’s smallest displayed unit, one penny or cent. Revenue and cost subtotals round to cents. Displayed percentages use two decimal places. Statement-level aggregation may round differently.
Tax bases
VAT-inclusive sale prices have the entered tax removed from revenue. Exclusive prices have entered tax added to the buyer total. Marketplace-collected sales tax is excluded from revenue. In the Etsy US preset that collected tax is included in payment processing but excluded from transaction, regulatory, Offsite Ads and conversion percentage bases. The tool does not determine tax nexus, registration, classification, reverse charge or recovery rights.
Fee assumptions
Etsy ordinary presets are source-backed. Other marketplaces require your applicable percentage and fixed fees. Complex category tiers, multi-currency conversions, Amazon size tiers and capped Offsite Ads charges need exact manually entered costs. No automatic marketplace connection is present.

Saved reports
Saved report snapshots retain the input values, engine version and fee-version reference. Updating a fee source does not silently rewrite historical results. Recalculate into a new report when you want to use revised assumptions.
Report a problem
Include the tool, entered assumptions and the difference you observed. Avoid sending customer information. Open help and issue reporting.
